The Defamer reports that Showtime has picked up the show for 2 year at 12 episodes a year (maybe 13) with a third year option. The final decision on the show’s fate rests with creator Mitch Hurwitz who had some thinking to do.
I maybe in the minority but I’m not sure that I want it back on the air. Don’t get me wrong incredibly funny, can’t miss T.V., waaay to smart for mass consuption but the last few episodes wrapped things up rather well. In America great T.V. shows tend to overstay their welcome and slowly crawl off the air while the quality deteriorates.
See: Buffy The Vampire, Alias, Homicide, Fraiser, West Wing, to name a few of my favorites shows that left the air waay past their prime.
The best example of this problem can be compared and constrasted to your heart’s delight with the American Office vs. the BBC’s Office.
The original Office lasted a grand total of 14 episodes which the American version has surpassed already. The British version didn’t have a wasted minute and never let us grow tired with seeing the same old thing. While there are positives about it’s American counterpart (a little more of a broader development amongst the whole cast) it’s not the original by a long shot.
Could more of Arrested Development be too much of a good thing?
