Every month two comics—Criminal and Scalped are the bright spots that never fail to make the wait until the next month worth while and getting to the last page kinda depressing.
If you’ve neglected to pick up Scalped—you’re in luck.
Download the first issue here.
You won’t regret it.
Jason Aaron concocts a fantastic western flavored noir set on an Indian reservation that’s as complex and involving as an Ellroy novel with the literary flurishes of Cormac McCarthy.
Criminal’s Ed Brubaker describes the appeal of Scalped best: “Scalped is some of the most compelling character work and crime writing I’ve seen in a long time.”
EDIT: Jason Aaron has now issues a money back guarantee on the first trade of Scalped if you are for some crazy-ass reason not satisfied. See, there’s no reason not to give this book a chance.

Vertigo is one of the best comic companies out. I’ve got boxes full of these “mature” reading material.
I’ll have to check out this recommendation.
